World most Travelled Man !

Wasssup Y'all,

So the story below has inspired me and I am gonna aim to do this in my life time :) .......

A British man who currently holds the record for travelling the most miles around the world has reached a new landmark - 15 million miles.

70-year-old Fred Finn, who has spent 52 years exploring the globe, has visited 139 countries and took 718 flights on Concorde while it was active.

These numbers not only make him the world's most travelled man, but also give him the record for the most journeys taken aboard Concorde planes.

Now retired, Finn first travelled aged 18. Later on, his job setting up international trade licences meant he could easily keep travelling around the world on a regular basis. In 1983 he entered the Guinness Book of Records for "the most miles travelled as a passenger".

Not only has his record remained unbeaten, Finn has since travelled several million more miles.

And he doesn't seem ready to stop visiting places any time soon, as he plans to go as far as the moon one day.

"Seeing as I’ve travelled to most of the Earth, I have started looking further afield", he said. "I signed on for the Pan-American trip to the moon when they launched passenger services but sadly Pan-American are no longer with us.

"But it’s still something I’d be really keen to explore as soon as the opportunity arises.”

How to get a flight upgrade

Hey there peeps,

Its almost that time again, where I will be jetting off to sunnier climates, but I am constantly asked how do I get an upgrade whilst travelling, I have blogged about this before, but here is a refresher course :)

It can be very hit and miss, it all depends, but I have found the following below helps, and if you are travelling alone its a definite plus.... as they are more likely to offer a single traveller rather than a couple or a group

Dress correctly

Make sure you look respectable for your flight. This doesn’t mean you have to turn up in a suit and tie, but if you are wearing jeans and a scruffy T-shirt, this isn’t likely to do you any favours.

Use special occasions to your advantage

If you’re off on your honeymoon, or it’s a special birthday, casually drop this into the conversation at the check-in desk. Even if you don’t get an upgrade, you might still get a glass of champagne. Of course, the downside to this is that if you’re checking in online, there are fewer opportunities to do this.

Join the club

If you join a frequent flyer scheme and regularly collect points or airmiles, you’ll show how loyal you are to the airline. And this may mean you get an upgrade. This is even more likely if you can get the top level of membership.

Check in at the right time

If you’re checking in at the airport, rather than online, leaving it as late as possible might be the key to an upgrade. If you’re on a busy flight and there are no economy seats left, you may be lucky enough to be moved into business or first class. Alternatively, you may be asked to wait for a later flight and you’ll then be upgraded as compensation. That said, this strategy can backfire and you may be left with the worst seats on the flight!

Just ask!

Finally, you could of course simply ask for an upgrade. However, if you are going to do this, don’t be demanding and don’t shout it out so that everyone else can hear. Airline staff get tired of people asking for upgrades, so don’t assume that just because you’ve asked, you’ll get what you want.

2011 Travel plans!!

Hey there all,

It's the start of 2011, another year, more places to explore....

2010 wasn't much of a travel year for me, but this year I want to try new places and step outside the box, I will be visiting my old faithfuls such as Egypt, and Miami as I need the heat, but I will be exploring new areas such as :

Puerto Rico
Tanzania
Germany
Cuba

I am such a travel junkie and if you are in any of the areas that I plan to visit, feel free to hit me up with the best places to visit, eat or just explore.

Hopefully you will all be travelling with me on travel exploits in the next 12 months !

Twitter Travel !

I read this story and wanted to share it as I think its  amazing !

"A British man called Paul Smith has travelled around the world almost totally free using only Twitter to get journeys from fellow users.

Mr Smith, 34, a freelance writer, came up with the idea while suffering post-holiday blues after spending his honeymoon in New York.

He decided he wanted to try to get to Campbell Island, 200 miles off New Zealand's coast, within 30 days.

Rather than argue about it, his new wife Jane, 40, backed him and told him to put the dates on the calendar, he told The Sun.

He posted his aims on Twitter 28 days before he wanted to leave but, at first, there was little interest.

That changed when Stephen Fry found out about him and mentioned Mr Smith to his many followers.

This is how he did it:

- Ferry ticket from Newcastle to Amsterdam (tweeter called Leanne)

- Train to Paris (two French tweeters)

- Free bed at a hostel

- Train to Saarbrucken

- Lift in car to Frankfurt (German tweeter Andrea Juchem)

- One-way flight from Frankfurt to New York (tweeter called Owen, using Air Miles)

- Spare bed in hotel room (tweeter from Yorkshire called Mark)

- Then travel to and stays in Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco by plane, train and car (US tweeters)

- Flight to San Francisco (Zurich-based tweeter)

- Car to Los Angeles

- Free flight from LA to Auckland (Air New Zealand)

- Ferry to South Island

- Lift to tip of South Island (tweeter called Smiley)

- Sailed to Stewart Island.

At this point, Mr Smith had hoped to find a sailor to take him to his intended destination but here, at the final hurdle, he failed.

However, he realised he had achieved more than he could have hoped for - and proven how kind and spontaneous people could be to total strangers.

He also managed to be interviewed for the Good Morning America television breakfast show and partied with actresses Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes and Jessica Alba in Hollywood.

After returning to his wife and nine-year-old twin sons Sam and Jack - courtesy of another free flight from Air New Zealand - he said: "I was almost there, but not quite.

“But my main aim was to get as far around the world as I could in 30 days. When I gazed across the sea towards Campbell Island I didn’t feel like a beaten man.

"People were bending over backwards to help me and the trip proved to me there is a lot of good in the world."

He has written a book called Twitchhiker, which is out now"

If you’ve a yearning to see Father Christmas or the Northern Lights, then head for Luosto, an unspoilt national park in Finnish Lapland. Here, night-time snowmobile safaris are the order of the, er, night. 

2 Manhattan malls and falls
A snow-covered Christmas in New York is always likely, allowing you to combine a merry atmosphere with some indulgent shopping and buzzing city vibe. Choose between Fifth Avenue glam and downtown chic, and hit Nolita and the Meatpacking District to explore the city’s latest sartorial offerings. The shops at Columbus Circle and Trump Tower malls are great one-stop shops, especially if you’re pressed for time and need that last-minute gift. 

3 London’s seasonal South Bank
Of the many exotic Christmas markets that set up shop each year in the capital, the South Bank’s German Market in situ from late November onwards – is worth a ‘prost’ or two, whether you’re after a sausage butty and mulled wine, silver jewellery or unusual glass ornaments for the Christmas tree. Minutes away from the market is the London Eye , great for seeing the whole of London from a different perspective, whether it’s a blue, crisp and even winter’s day or there’s a blizzard to ride up into. 

4 Festive Fife, Scotland
Christmas in Fife, Scotland, can guarantee you romance and relaxation, as well as some festive, malt-sipping merriment. Choose between distillery tours, cycling, coastal walks, trips to St Andrews or – if you’re well greased up – watersports in Fife Harbour. 

5 Grand Christmas in Graz, Austria
The Franciscan Quarter Christmas in Graz market is good for everything from regional farm goodies to hot punch, and is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. For the kids there’s a merry-go-round and toy stalls. 

6 Bah humbug: a Jesus-free Christmas in Libya
Libya can cater extremely well to those who don’t or won’t celebrate Christmas. It’s also warm and surrounded by desert, so instead of mumbling hymns about kings of orient, you can feel like one – and if you don’t fancy a camel ride, then go on a 4x4 excursion into the Sahara. You will be shown ancient petroglyphs and a granary castle of Nalut in a spectacular position atop an escarpment. 

7 A proper winter, in Iceland
Britain in winter time is cold, wet and windy but just not very snowy, or even that cold. Iceland’s steamy Blue Lagoon, open to the general public, is fed by mineral-rich heated sea-water, and is a good place to mingle with the locals, smearing yourself with white mud while you chat about how cheap everything is, at last. 

8 Holy Holiday in Palestine
It’s so corny, it’s original. How many of your friends have spent Christmas in the place where it all started: Bethlehem? Palestine’s history is on show as soon as you arrive and you can book tours to holy sites – including Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity, in the heart of the town – and to refugee camps.

The Travel Queen is Back ........

Happy Monday !


So its been a few days since I hit you all up so I wanted catch up with you all to see what's Poppin?


Hope that you all had a great weekend, I am getting REALLY excited as I am heading to Vegas for a week to celebrate my Birthday and I am soooo looking forward to that!.


YES I am back in travel Mode! 


I have been good all year , but in the next 3 months I am  gonna be making up for lost time but I will keep you all posted.


Las Vegas is first in the Agenda ,  returning to touch down in Ibiza for a few days, followed by a weekend in Dubai to check out the joint, then heading to my second home in Texas for a good chin wag with my girl.......


I am suppose to fit in Milan in there somewhere, but not sure if it will happen.

Upgrading - Travelling in style !

Travelling is FUN!

It is always better when we get to travel in style as it make the experience more exciting and lets face it comfortable

So let me give you a few of my trade secrets that has worked for me in the past whilst I have been travelling.

We all love to travel in style, I have yet to meet one person who doesn't, and it is something that is achievable without having a great deal of money, and is best reflected by your approach as a person and how you react / deal with situations.



Below is a few simple tips that I have used that has worked for me :

1. remember when travelling to look the part, wear something that is flattering and easy to travel in, but also that can be easily fit into place in business class or even first class


2. have one piece of designer carry on, that looks expensive it doesn't have to be, it just needs to look like good quality product.


3. walk with confidence- a certain air of aloofness, but not too much arrogance


4. smile - that is the best assets that will work in your favour


5. select one check in booth and focus on that person, be friendly , but with an attitude that you are a seasoned traveller


6. whilst checking in make eye contact and have a friendly conversation, enquire as to whether the flight is full, play on the fact that this is your first flight to that particular destination and how excited you are etc.
7. personalised your interaction with the check in staff, looking at body language as to how receptive they are with you
8. ask the direct question as if the flight isn't full what are the chances of you getting an upgrade, do this in a humorous and exciting way - remember this is your first trip.

Ok so having travelled most of my life, and with friends that just live their life vocariously through my travel exploits, -I decided why not share the experience with all.


I am about to embark on truly awesome adventure ( well for me it is )


For the next 4 weeks , I will be living and working in Egypt!


Egypt you say..... yes Egypt!


Since Dec 2007 , I have been travelling to this wonderful and truly spiritual place that keeps drawing me back over and over again!
