My trip

Good morning all,

To all my friends, followers, acquaintances and associates, I would like to thank you all for your expressed concern on my travel plans to Egypt today.

Rest assured that prior to my travelling and to the recent unrest in Egypt, I had been in touch with the necessary bodies to get the required info before finalising my plans.

The recent unrest is occurring in Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez. The worst area is Cairo which is a considerable distance from my destination in Sharm el Sheikh ( an hour plane ride and a 8 hour drive).

However with that in mind, I will be limited with my access to the internet due to the country ban in place, but I believe that will be lifted in a few days as Egypt will need the internet to continue operating on a daily basis.

I will keep you all posted !
Until da next Tyme !

Building Self Trust

Hi there all,

I received these words this morning and I think they are worth passing on .....

"Self trust is having an unshakeable conviction in yourself
that relies on no proof or evidence.  However, to start building
self trust, you need to see improvements in yourself.

Make a promise, a commitment to you,
however small (in fact, start very small).  And then keep it!
Make one and keep one today, and then notice
how much more you trust yourself. "

Financial Questiosn to ask your Partner .....

Hello people,

So many of my friends wait until its too late to find out how compatible they are financially with their partner.

In todays society these are questions that shouldnt be a taboo subject , it may be uncomfortable but talking money with your partnetr is extremely important to a healthy relationship .

So here are a few question you should consider asking - these are only guidlines.

1. Is saving money important to you?

This question encompasses a few others, such as "have you started saving for retirement?" and "do you have an emergency fund?". The answer will offer a lot of insight about your partner's money personality.

If saving is important, does your partner make it a priority to put a set amount away each month or pay day? Perhaps they only put away money that comes in above their set income — money from a part-time job or freelance work, reimbursement cheques, tax refunds or bonuses for example.

Does your partner put a lot of money away but has no qualms taking it back out to pay for fun purchases? Or maybe they put away less but refuse to take it out. What level of saving do they consider appropriate? Your number could vary wildly from your partner's.

2. If someone gave you £1,000, what would you do with it?

There's nothing wrong if the response is "spend it!", but take the time to answer in a bit more detail. Would you spend it on some new clothes you've been denying yourself in favour of paying back your student debts? That's a very different picture to the answer of: "I'd buy lottery tickets with it instead of using it to pay rent."

Your partner may be thousands of pounds in debt, but choosing to put the windfall towards debt shows how serious they are about getting back in the black.

3. Do you want children?

Here's a sensitive question that isn't for a first (or even 10th) date. But if you are at that point in your relationship, the decision to have children or not will have a huge impact on your finances.

The cost of raising a child from birth to the age of 21 is now £201,809 according to the latest Cost of a Child as reportd by a recent report from Liverpool Victoria Building Society

4. How do you feel about having debt?

Debt is something most of us will deal with in our lifetime. It can be a great tool for growing a business, getting an education or building net worth through property. But does having debt stress your partner out?

Do they prioritise getting out of debt when they incur it? Does your partner consider debt a tool to be used only when appropriate? If your partner doesn't think having debt is a big deal, they may not hesitate to put an expensive laptop on credit without a plan to pay for it. Or they may just be laid back.

Ask for a more detailed explanation if you aren't sure how to read the response.

5. What is your current financial state?

Are you carrying £10,000 in consumer debt? Do you have student loans? Do you have money stocked away for emergencies? This question gives you and your partner the opportunity to take stock of where you are with your finances.

Consider retirement savings, other savings, consumer debt, student loans, investments and any other assets. This doesn't have to sound like you are calculating their net worth — exact numbers aren't really as important as knowing where their priorities are when it comes to their money.

6. How many accounts do you have and where are they?

In the unfortunate event that something happens to your partner, you need to know where their assets are. What credit cards will need to be closed? What retirement accounts will need to be dealt with? What bills will be coming?

Hopefully you'll never have to deal with it, but putting all of your financial information in a place where your partner will be able to access it in the event the need arises could save you a lot of hassle later on.

The bottom line

These questions are just as important to ask yourself, even if you aren't part of a couple. Be honest with your responses and you may find financial areas where you can set goals for improvement.

Remember, don't just give the answer you think is 'right', it's more valuable to have a realistic view of you and your partner's financial habits. Don't feel like you have to end the relationship if your answers don't match.

Many couples have one partner that is more conservative with cash while the other is pretty lax about where and how they spend their money. Knowing where you and your partner stand will help you keep yourselves in line financially, and make your relationship that much stronger.

Ways to know if they are the one .......

Hi there all,

With Valentines looming its head arond the corner, how do you know that you have found the ONE......

Part time fling or long term lover? It's the eternal question. He's cute, funny and your friends love him, but is that enough? How do you know he's ‘the one'? Here are 10 factors to consider and if you can meet at least nine of them then hold tight because he might just be the one you've been looking for, please note these are just some of my guidelines :)

He makes you laugh until you cry
A sense of the humour is one of the most appealing qualities in a man and sharing the same jokes will keep you close, whatever comes your way. It doesn't matter if no one else finds you funny, as long as you can make each other laugh out loud.

You want the same things out of life
If you want to settle down and have a family and he wants to travel the world with no commitments then you are not on the same page. Although all couples have to make compromises you should essentially want the same things out of life and be able to work towards them together.

He likes you best with no makeup on
Yes, you may think he is lying but the chances are that he really does prefer you au natural. He loves you for you, not for the clothes you wear or the make up you doll yourself up in. If he tells you you're pretty when you are cuddled up in your pyjamas then chances are that he means it.

You love him because of his flaws
It is wrong to think that to be ‘the one' your man has to be perfect. Nobody is perfect. He is ‘the one' when you know him well enough to see all his flaws, accept them for part of who he is, and love him just as much anyway.

He supports you in everything you do
Whether you are going for a job promotion or planning a night out with your friends - he should be your biggest cheerleader. He may not agree 100% with all your decisions but he will never stop you doing anything, will be there to offer advice and pick you up when things go wrong.

You trust him implicitly
If you have been hurt in the past it can be difficult to trust again, but it is an important part of any relationship. Your partner should earn your trust by proving that he always keeps his word and treats you with respect. No, you can never be 100% sure he won't stray but 99.5% will do.

Even your dad/best friend/dog likes him
OK, it shouldn't matter what other people think of him, but it is still nice to know that they approve. Your dad and best friend are only looking out for your best interests and it is difficult to convince them that somebody is good enough for you. If your boyfriend manages to get them on his side then you are probably on to a winner.

You wake up and feel lucky each morning
As you roll over in the morning and see him lying next to you, you are struck with a great sense of contentment. Here, out of everywhere in the world, is where you most want to be. You feel lucky to have him in your life and can't imagine sharing it with anyone else.

You stop noticing the cute guy at the coffee shop
Of course you are still going to find other men attractive but it is amazing how much less you notice them when you have found ‘the one'. Think about it, have you met anyone recently who really got your juices flowing? No? Then chances are he's right in front of you.

You just know
Sometimes there is no defining factor or moment that confirms he is ‘the one' - you just know. When your life is brighter with him in it (even with his annoying habits and football obsession), when you feel happy each morning and can't imagine your life without him, when you smile thinking about him - you just know

Travel Ideas for 2011

Hi there all,

Its 2011 and even though its winter here there are places we can head off to, to get that heat that we all crave !

British weather might be about as predictable as... erm... nope, I can’t think of anything as unpredictable as British weather. Yet there is one thing you can absolutely guarantee: you can pack away your sun specs, flip-flops and vest tops for winter with complete confidence because you won’t have any use for them. Too depressing a thought? Then pack them into a suitcase instead and book a flight to one of these hot destinations...

Playa Del Inglés, Gran Canaria

Average top winter temperature: 24C

The Canaries are your closest- and often cheapest – bet for guaranteed heat in winter and if nightlife is high on your list of priorities, Playa Del Inglés is ideal. Not such a concentration of 18-30 type groups on endless pub crawls as in the summer but it is still buzzing - especially in the liveliest of its several commercial centres, the Kasbah – jam-packed with clubs and bars. When you’re not rocking the Kasbah, the beaches are decent spots for soaking up the sun.
Corralejo, Fuerteventura

Average top winter temperature: 22C

A more chilled Canary Island, but with beaches to rival the Carribean, is Fuerteventura. Corralejo’s progression from fishing village to popular holiday resort hasn’t meant it’s lost its original charm and atmosphere; its main street holds most of its shops, bars and restaurants and leads down through the music square and on to the harbour, looking across the other side of town and the breathtaking sand dunes, which are a protected nature reserve and spread for miles along the east coast.

Cancun, Mexico

Average top winter temperature: 28C

There’s a reason baddies always plan to run away to Mexico once they’ve executed their evil plot; with temperatures rarely dropping below the 20s you could easily live out your days drinking Margaritas under a palm tree on white sandy beaches by bathtub-warm clear blue seas. Mexico’s most beautiful beach is Cancun, which also boasts a happening nightlife, whether it’s a strobe-lit nightclub or a dimly-lit cigar bar you’re after.

Hurghada, Egypt

Average top winter temperature: 24C

If sun, sea, sand and nightlife are more up your street than historical ruins then a better Egyptian destination is Hurghada on the Red Sea. Only in the last ten years has it transformed from a quiet fishing village to a consummate holiday destination but it’s caught up quickly. Lively bars and clubs? Glorious beach? Watersports? Check, check, check. Beach activities range from windsurfing and sailing by day to the Ministry of Sound beach party at night.

Goa, India

Average top winter temperature: 32C

The influence of colonial rule is apparent in this solitary Portuguese outpost, from its charming, crumbling architecture to the East-meets-West cuisine. If you want to spend your holiday lounging on the beach you could do a lot worse than Goa’s swaying palms, white sands and sparkling waters. Or if you want to venture out, its scenery includes vanilla-scented spice plantation, bird-filled riverbanks and centuries-old cathedrals.

Gambia, Africa

Average top winter temperature: 32C

Its location midway between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator gives Gambia uninterrupted sunshine, with almost no rainfall from November to June, making winter months peak season. That doesn’t mean overcrowding though – it just means bars and restaurants are in full swing. Beaches are lush and plentiful but it would be a shame to go all the way to Africa and not experience the culture – excursions include safaris and local tours.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Average top winter temperature: 27C

The beaches are every bit as luscious as you’d expect from the Caribbean’s most laid-back island, and there’s plenty to do in this former fishing town besides sunbathe and drink rum to a reggae soundtrack. Most popular is Dunns River Falls - a 600-foot long series of cascading waterfalls that you can climb like a sort of staircase. Fans of 007 are in for a treat – Ocho Rios is home to James Bond Beach, where Sean Connery made his debut in ‘Dr No’, as well as Golden Eye villa, where Ian Fleming wrote the novels.

Nile cruise, Egypt

Average top winter temperature: 26C

There’s so much historical sightseeing to be had, from the Sphinx to The Valley of the Kings, and you’ll get far more ground covered with a cruise than if you stay in a hotel. But with temperatures well over-taking the 40C mark during summer months, unless you explore at the crack of dawn you’ll be too hot and bothered to care about the architectural merits of the pyramids. Winter is hot, sunny and bearable.

Dominican Republic

Average top winter temperature: 26C

Arguably the best Caribbean destination for all-encompassing, all-inclusive resorts. There’s little to explore by foot beyond your hotel, but if you hire a car it’s worth taking a day to drive out to Playa Limón. Although the beaches are awesome in Punta Cana, this two-mile, isolated beach lined with coconut trees is something else. Because it’s a little out of the way it’s not unlikely you’ll have the spot to yourself and it’s such a scenic journey that it’s worth the trip.

Mauritius

Average top winter temperature: 34C

When someone says the words ‘paradise’, the picture that pops involuntarily into your head probably looks exactly like this. A volcanic island of lagoons and palm-fringed beaches in the Indian Ocean, but with more activities to entertain you than on most tropical islands; from trekking, mountain climbing and fishing to golf resorts, luxury spas and a horse racing track. To name but a few. Not that you have to do any of them if you’d rather just lie on perfect white sand, next to the perfect turquoise sea.

How to get a flight upgrade

Hey there peeps,

Its almost that time again, where I will be jetting off to sunnier climates, but I am constantly asked how do I get an upgrade whilst travelling, I have blogged about this before, but here is a refresher course :)

It can be very hit and miss, it all depends, but I have found the following below helps, and if you are travelling alone its a definite plus.... as they are more likely to offer a single traveller rather than a couple or a group

Dress correctly

Make sure you look respectable for your flight. This doesn’t mean you have to turn up in a suit and tie, but if you are wearing jeans and a scruffy T-shirt, this isn’t likely to do you any favours.

Use special occasions to your advantage

If you’re off on your honeymoon, or it’s a special birthday, casually drop this into the conversation at the check-in desk. Even if you don’t get an upgrade, you might still get a glass of champagne. Of course, the downside to this is that if you’re checking in online, there are fewer opportunities to do this.

Join the club

If you join a frequent flyer scheme and regularly collect points or airmiles, you’ll show how loyal you are to the airline. And this may mean you get an upgrade. This is even more likely if you can get the top level of membership.

Check in at the right time

If you’re checking in at the airport, rather than online, leaving it as late as possible might be the key to an upgrade. If you’re on a busy flight and there are no economy seats left, you may be lucky enough to be moved into business or first class. Alternatively, you may be asked to wait for a later flight and you’ll then be upgraded as compensation. That said, this strategy can backfire and you may be left with the worst seats on the flight!

Just ask!

Finally, you could of course simply ask for an upgrade. However, if you are going to do this, don’t be demanding and don’t shout it out so that everyone else can hear. Airline staff get tired of people asking for upgrades, so don’t assume that just because you’ve asked, you’ll get what you want.

Helping others

Good morning peeps!

I had to put pen to paper (figuratively speaking) whilst I am travelling this morning.

During my morning travel today a young lady fainted .

What was surprising was the people's reaction to the situation, they all stood there looking down at her!!!

A bunch of school girls were laughing and the white collar workers were just staring.

Luckily all the years of working at the NHS Direct came into effect, and I was able to stabilise her and ascertain info that was vital until the ambulance arrived.

My concern is that are we becoming a nation that doesn't know the simple things to help / assist another human being....and that is truly sad.

I for one knows that 23year Nicole Baker was grateful that I was on the 344 this morning :) and that I had a level head, like she said this happened to her a year ago on the train and no one did anything.....
