Heading Home!

Hi there all,

Following my trip to Sharm last sunday, its now time to head home.

Egypt over the last 13 days has made a mark in its own history , the people found their voice , and they are still exercising that voice.

I for one commend them for finally standing up for themselves, you can only suffer for so long!

The last 13 days has proven one thing to the Egyptians in Sharm, and this was reiterated by an Egyptian at the airport.

The only country that has been supporting them by still traveling here for holidays are the British!

As I stand in the Check In halls at terminal 2, of the 6 flights checking in to depart, they are all british!

So, a lot can be said about the british, some things are worse than others, but when it get down to it, they normally will stick with you, especially if sun and cheap drink is thrown in :)

My visit this time was to relax and catch up with a few friends here, it was good to touch base with Amr, thanks as always, I am glad I discovered you all those years ago.....since 2007 wow!

George, you didn't let me down, my finger is sparkling, Andrea, thank you, great to see ya, my nails are sexy as only you know how to do.( Any ladies heading to Sharm and need sexy nails hit me up....this chick is awesome)

Sayed as always its enlightening and I thank you!

Suzanne, congratulations to you and Mo,I am happy that you are happy! Life is short so grabbing your happiness now is all that counts. Ahmed she will be staying for a while longer :)

Egypt is ever changing and it will always hold a special part in my heart, I am glad I was able to experience this change in their history, and it will only get better.

Egypt will see me again, not sure when, but when it does I won't be staying at the Ritz Carlton....but that is another blog to be written !

Sharm in the Egypt Crisis

Hello peeps!

Ok so today was a monumental day in Egypt's history.

For those of you following the news - not that you can miss it! Egypt has been dominating the world stage!

Well today was the day that many Egyptians wanted to be liberated from the same government of 30 years- however I don't believe they got their wish today, but I believe they will in the end!

Well I am please to say that Sharm is starting to get back on the map slowly.

Petrol is getting through, supermarkets are starting to fill their shelves up again, the banks are a little bit slower, but the internet is working once again.

I still hear planes landing, but Naama bay is still lacking one important ingredient.......
People/tourist!

The town is still quiet, the tourist are few and far between and as a result the locals are unable to work and therefore businesses are closing and laying off their staff.

Economically this has affected Sharm on a huge basis and it will take a while to recover.

The locals here in Sharm understandably are upset as this is their livelihood and they just wish to return to normal and start earning money!

Egypt still in Crisis

Hello my peeps,

As I am still in Egypt, the country, especially Cairo still in a state of unrest!

The president haven't given the people what they want, so they are still protesting. The world is watching and the sudden onset of violence has sparked rumours that the state is involved by sending in undercover police to infiltrate the peaceful protesters!

In the Red Sea area where I am staying, life still goes on but with hindrance.

The internet has returned, but the banks are still closed, ATMs has no money, there is still no petrol, and the food in the supermarket already limited - their prices has increased dramatically :(

Majority of the hotels are closed and staff dismissed as there are few customers.

I took a walk through Naama Bay( the town) last night around 1:30am and the streets were empty.

Normally for Sharm this is the time when it is extremely busy, but cafe bars and sheesha cafes were closed, a sure sign that these unrest and potential civil war is costing Egypt's economy a great deal.

The holiday company's are estimating that the last 10days has cost around £25-£30millions.

In perspective, that is a huge amount!

Information

Hey all,

In  reply to my last Amazing fact #62  about The Home Insurance building.... for those that requested furt5her information ..... see a snippet form Wikipedia......

"The Home Insurance Building was built in 1884 in ChicagoIllinoisUSA and destroyed in 1931 to make way for the Field Building (now the LaSalle National Bank Building). It was the first building to use structural steel in its frame, but the majority of its structure was composed of cast and wrought iron. It is generally noted as the first tall building to be supported, both inside and outside, by a fireproof metal frame. Although the Ditherington Flax Mill, also a fireproof-metal-framed building, was built earlier, it was only five stories tall."

A freer Egypt??

Hello peeps!

So today as Egypt still holds the world centre stage, the president has finally decided to speak to his nation.

As expected following pressure from the world and even more from the US, Mubarak has decided not to stand for re election, however Egyptians are not happy!

They wanted him to leave immediately, but in true presidential style and living in his own world he has indicated that he is doing his nation and great justice by serving until the end of his term.

Needless to say the Egyptians haven't fully accepted this news as the country is still on lock down, with a possible food crisis on the way, so let's see what tomorrow brings, as the next few days should be interesting!

Egypt update

Hello peeps,

As most of you know I made the trip to Sharm el Sheikh on sunday.

Rest assured I am safe, however I can see a very dire situation unfolding, not directly interms of my safety, but more to do with the day to day running of a city - whose main income is tourism!

Firstly, no supplies are getting through from Cairo, so that means, no petrol, no bread, no fresh vegetables, no beer etc, to top that all the country has no internet, that creates an even bigger issue, no card payments are accepted, no ATMs are working, the banks has no money to fill them, so no workers are being paid, so you can imagine how that will work out!!!

There may not be any violence in Sharm, but the fallout from Cairo is affecting trade and life here!

The next few days will be interesting :)
